Tom’s story

The young couple who took the fluffy Persian kitten home paid two hundred pounds for him!

But that didn’t really make them cat people.

As he grew up and wasn’t quite so cute any more, Tom wasn’t given a scratching post or any toys, so he attacked the furniture and rugs. So, he got shouted at. Unfortunately, he was also left on his own for up to fifteen hours at a time most days, with nothing to do except be, in a human’s eyes, ‘naughty’.

The couple who bought him as a kitten eventually started putting him out all day. The trouble is, they forgot to leave him any food or water. The day I picked Tom up after offering to re-home him, he sat on the side and drank for ten minutes without a break. It was the middle of summer, and it seemed that somebody had forgotten to give him a drink.

Fortunately, Tom isn’t any the worst for his experiences. He’s put on weight, had a bath and been groomed, and has ensnared a harem of female judge love-slaves at his first cat show. He’s a sweet cat without a bad bone in his body, whose worst habit is biting me whenever I put the de-tangler comb through his fur!
