Topper’s story
Topper
was a much loved cat.
So
loved, in fact, that he can still be a bit of a bully to this day
if you try to move him from his comfy spot on your lap in order to
adjust your newspaper or scratch your toes!
Topper
lived with an old lady who was approaching 94 years old. She
didn’t want to go into a home because she was worried about her
cat. She didn’t want to leave him. But, as she became more and
more frail, her family asked if she’d be happy if they found a
good home for him. She was. And they did.
Topper
came to live with us from Scarborough, on the coast. He adapted to
life as an indoor cat very well, and amused us no end by
recognising the call of seagulls on TV and looking up at the
living room ceiling as though he expected a flock to come flying
over! Topper also sent several photos of himself in his new home
to his former owner, who showed them to her friends at the nursing
home, along with letters to explain that he was doing just fine!
Topper
amuses us most when he is feeling under the weather, because he is
such a bad patient. He hates taking pills, and will only let a
lady vet put a thermometer up his bottom (any man trying the same
would be clawed to death instantly). When he feels poorly he
deliberately hides under the furniture and cries for attention,
until all hands are on deck searching frantically for him. Then he
peeks out from his hiding place with a grumble. He’s our oldest
cat now at eleven years old; let’s hope we have many more happy
years to come!
